Below is a summary and FAQ section designed to clarify the terms you may see associated with our products and answer the most commonly asked questions. We strongly suggest you read this section over as well as the individual product descriptions prior to purchasing.
Refurbished
The term "Refurbished" generally refers to products that have been returned by customers under a 30 day money-back guarantee or similar policy. It also applies to "Off Lease" products purchased from large companies who are updating their equipment. The vast majority of these items are not defective or damaged. After thorough testing and inspection, they are repackaged for sale at a significantly discounted price.
"Factory Refurbished" (also referred to as "remanufactured" or "reconditioned") is used to describe products that have initially failed quality control at the factory. The manufacturer will inspect, vigorously test and if necessary, replace any defective components before they leave the factory. They are then repackaged by the manufacturer and in many cases will be clearly marked as Refurbished or the model number may be revised accordingly. It should be noted these items are rebuilt to New specifications and provide an excellent opportunity to save over the cost of the equivalent retail version.
Buy with confidence! Technology Direct sells a large volume of refurbished products, giving our customers the opportunity to save 15-50% or more. These products must meet our standards in terms of condition or packaging and a minimum 30 day defect warranty is provided. In some cases the manufacturer may provide their full warranty.
New (Retail , OEM, Pulls & End of Line)
"Retail"
"OEM"
Refers to new products that were originally intended to be sold as part of a bundle but instead are repackaged and sold individually. Generally, these items are made available at a substantial discount compared to the original retail version although they may be missing some non-essential accessories such as batteries, software, user guide etc.
"Pulls"
Technology Direct from time to time will offer new products described as "Pulls". These are components such as Optical Drives, Card Readers, LAN Cards etc. removed from new systems that were reconfigured for a customer. They are usually bulk packaged and supported by us directly with our Defect Protection Warranty.
"End of Line" & "Discontinued"
End of Line products are brand new and come available when a manufacturer updates it's product line. This may occur several times in a year meaning these items are by no means out of date or old technology. In most cases they are retail packaged and supported by the manufacturer's full warranty. To make room for updated versions, discontinued products can often be purchased at much lower prices.
Gently Used
Technology Direct on occasion, may sell "Gently Used" products. Our policy is to inspect these items carefully and only sell those that are in "A" (like new) condition. These products will be fully tested, certified working and will be backed by our DOA warranty or in many cases, a 30 Day guarantee against defects. If applicable, any missing accessories or components will be clearly indicated in the product description.
FAQs:
1) What condition are refurbished/OEM products in?
Generally, these items are in very good (Grade B) to excellent (Grade A) condition with little to no noticeable difference between the retail version. In some cases however, there may be some slight markings or other imperfections visible which in no way will impact the performance of the product. The packaging and the contents often differ from the retail version and this is described in detail below. The trade-off of course is the incredible savings you realize when buying our OEM or refurbished products.
2) How are refurbished or OEM products packaged?
Most often they are packed in a plain white or brown box and in certain cases, bulk clear bags. Some items are repacked in their original retail box however the box may show some wear or tearing. It is important to note that New, repackaged OEM products will differ in appearance from the retail version. The inspection, testing and repacking of these items is a manual process undertaken by the wholesaler or Technology Direct. In these instances, the original retail packaging is damaged and/or not available so other materials must be utilized. Factory recertified items on the other hand are packaged by the manufacturer and shipped in their own non-retail boxes.
3) What is included?
Our goal is to source OEM and refurbished products that offer the exact same contents as the retail version. This however is not always possible. As a result certain OEM, Pulled or Refurbished products may be sold without non-essential items such as batteries, the user manual or software. Technology Direct endeavors to indicate the contents wherever possible but many products are supplied in sealed packaging so we are not responsible for any errors or omissions in this regard.
4) I am missing software or the manual, what should I do?
Technology Direct will not knowingly sell an item that cannot function without an included accessory or software. However, if you need to update your product, have specific technical questions or wish to download documentation we suggest you visit the manufacturer's website. Most manufacturers provide a host of resources to assist you including software, FAQs, documentation, firmware updates etc. In many cases the link is provided by us in the Product Description for your convenience. Also, with today's plug and play technology and supporting operating systems, many USB powered items such as web cams, keyboards and mice no longer require separate drivers. Once plugged in, they are automatically configured and ready to go!
3) Am I protected if there is a problem?
Absolutely! Technology Direct prides itself on prompt, professional customer service. All of our products (excluding consumables) are protected by a minimum 30 day warranty against defects. If the item is "DOA" (Dead on Arrival) or not functioning properly, we will gladly assist you in getting the problem resolved so long as it is within the specified warranty period. We also welcome your product inquiries and questions but unfortunately do not have the resources to offer detailed technical support. We suggest you check with the manufacturer in these instances.
